The 1st SODE 2010 after glow

Finally The 1st SODE 2010 (SMAN 2 Surabaya Open Debate event) that is organized by OSIS of SMAN 2 Sby and SMADA IDEA (SMADA Intellectual Debate Education Association) has finished. On behalf on the committee, we would like to congratulate, the winners of SODE 2010:

1st Winner RED WINE (Mytha SMAN 3 Sda, Rifan ITB, Citra SMAN 2 Sby)
2nd Winner UWIKA B
3rd Winner UMM A
4th Position SMPN 1 Ponorogo
(The 1st history in the national debate (if I am not mistaken), where a Junior high school team can break into final round..!!)

Best Speakers Categories:
Best of the best: Riphan (ITB)
University : Riphan (ITB)
Senior High School: David (Spider/SMAN 1 Krian)
Junior High School: Whanegi (SMPN 1 Ponorogo)

We would like to deliver our greatest gratitude to the A team (Mz Rizal-UNESA, Aini-ITS, Harist-POLINEMA, Rimba-UNAIR) and all of the Adjudicators for all of the friendly cooperation and the enormous assistance to the Committee. Our deepest gratitude also goes for all of Debaters for participating in SODE 2010.

We would like also to deliver our humblest and deepest apology for all of the lack and and the limitation of our ability in providing a satisfying service that might likely far from the definition of perfect.

Hopefully next year, SMADA IDEA could hold a better SODE with a better service and facilities for the debaters and the adjudicators.

It is our deepest expectation that the result of this SODE, could trigger the birth of more SMP debaters under the coaching of either SMA or Varsity debaters. If Ponorogo can do it, why can't we? right? MUST DO WE (mas Dwi)? :)
So in the end, it is expected that in the future we could provide a more number of high quality SMA and Varsity debaters for the selection of ISDC (SMA) and NUEDC (Varsity).

At the of the day, even though SODE has already finished,
but please DO keep it in your memory that...

Debate is a WAR but your weapons are WORDS

Thank you..

Regards

SODE 2010 COMMITTEE

WORDS FROM THE COMMITTEE

The cap of the 1st SODE 2010 has been fulfilled, thank you for the teams who have been registered, we will upload the list of the teams soon.

Regarding to the motions, all of the motions in SODE, either prepared or impromptu are designed to meet the qualification of philosophical debate, in which even though the proposal mechanism or practicality analysis sometimes needed but please do not consider that as your team's main tools to gain upperhand position in debate, it is fundementally okay to employ proposal mechanism or practicality analysis but we highly expected that the main course of the debate will go in the philosophical level. For beginner debaters, you might want to look up on the idea of Social Contract in wikipedia or google to help you broaden and develop your argument deeper into philosophical level.

So.., for the debaters, please prepare your WORDS for the upcoming WAR in SODE,
'coz in SODE, we believe that

DEBATE IS A WAR, BUT YOUR WEAPONS ARE WORDS

SODE 2010 (SMADA OPEN DEBATE EVENT)

Dear fellow debaters,

These several months lately has surely been some busy months for all of debaters (High School and Varsity) in East Java, because there have been so many Debate Competitions being held in some institutions in East Java.

But despite the fact that there are so many competitions, there are in fact only few Open Debate Tournament that has been held in East Java. Well, in fact the only and the last Open Debate Tournament that we had was on December 2009 in SMAN 9 Surabaya. That was called SEDOT (Surabaya English Debate Open Tournament).

Now, to continue the spirit of the previous SEDOT Competition, where High School debaters and Varsity Debaters can compete each other. Hence, SMAN 2 Surabaya is proudly presenting to you,… (drum role) … SODE (SMADA Open Debate Event) 2010.

With several considerations, the Rules and Regulation of SODE 2010 would be a little bit different to the previous SEDOT 2009.

DATE:
- Competition:
29 May - 30 May 2010
- Technical Meeting and Adjudicators Accreditation:
21 May 2010 (After Jumatan, 13.00 WIB)

LOCATION:
SMAN 2 Surabaya
Jl. Wijayakusuma No.48 Surabaya

CONTESTANT LIMITATION:
- Contestants:
Junior High School students,

Senior High School students,
University students (Maximum 21 years old)
(proven by ID Card)
- Adjudicator accreditation (no age and institution limitation):
all of accredited adjudicators will get a certificate after the competition.

REGISTRATION FEE:
IDR 120.000,- / Team
IDR 40.000,-/Adjudicator accreditation

TEAM REGULATION:
(You have 2 kinds of option of team to join this Open Tournament)
1) Team from the same institution (Institutional team):
- Each institution may send up to 3 teams (each team should also send 1 adju to be accredited)
in which the 3rd team will be placed in the waiting list (waiting list is sorted by date of registration). If the registration has been closed and the cap limit is not exceeded yet, these waiting list teams could join the competition, if not, the registration fee will be refunded.

2) Team from different institution (Coalition team):
- Each team may consist of some debaters from different institution (each team should also send 1 adju to be accredited)
(ex: 1st speaker from UNAIR, 2nd Speaker from SMAN 1 Sidoarjo, 3rd Speaker from SMP 1 Surabaya) or (1st speaker from UM, 2nd speaker from SMAK St Albertus Malang, and 3rd speaker from SMAN 2 Surabaya)
All you need is just to creatively use your wildest imagination on how to create a solid team that consist of some killer speakers, so call those people, and persuade them to make a team with you, happy lobbying :)
- This kind of team is considered as a team that is representing each individual in that team, and will not be considered as a team that is representing any institution.
- Since it is not an institutional team, then this kind of team, should make a name for the team, all kind of name is free to be used (not a vulgar one we hope), you can come up with any name, as crazy as you can think.
(ex: Three virgins from hell, Triple Trouble, Happy three friends, Trio Kwek-Kwek, Ker-I-Nget (Keren dan Imyut b4Ng3t) or even Trio Macan

3) Of course, you might want to consult and ask permission to your coach, on whether or not you are allowed to make your own team, or you have to join the team from your institution.

COMPETITION REGULATION:
- Different to the previous SEDOT 2009 which was using 6 Preliminary rounds, rank them up and decide the
winners.
In SODE 2010, we are going to use 3 prelims (Day 1), Octo-Quarter Semi-Final (Day 2)
- It'd be using Asian Parliamentary System.

MOTION:
There will be only 3 prepared motions, meanwhile the rest of the motions are impromptu, it is purposed to see the real skill of the team. For in the first place, it is supposed to be the battle between debaters and not the battle between coaches (who usually helped you preparing the motions).

REGISTRATION:
Open: 1 May 2010
Closed: 21 May 2010
or until the cap of 30 team is reached, whichever happen first.
